Mingle Park by Arron Richardson

In 2005 I landscaped the backyard of the Nimbin Museum.

I made the fireplace from old bricks and bits of concrete and I made some stairs and I called it Mingle Park.

I used to drink metho in a Kingle Park in Rockhampton. I gave up drinking in 1992 and I’ve been sober 20 years.

To give up drinking you have to hit stony rock bottom and once you’ve been there and don’t like the place then you have to demand something better. God has a plan for everyone and everything happens for a reason.

My dad taught me to landscape as we transformed our place when we were kids. Every weekend the whole family mixed concrete for driveways and paths, rock walls and stuff. I want to grow a crop and buy my own truck and equipment and start my own landscaping business.

I started Mingle Park when I was bored and I finished it so that people from all over the world can come and mingle. I want people from Palm Island to come down also.

It’s my park and I’m the boss. And what’s mine is yours so if you think it needs raking, grab a rake and do it yourself. Don’t be shy.

The Servant of the Lord.
